Therapy that works with your insurance, across California

Starting therapy is a big step. Sorting out your benefits shouldn’t be the hardest part of it. Here is exactly what I accept, what to expect, and how to find out what your plan covers, in plain language, before we ever meet.

How to check your behavioral health benefits

Your therapy coverage is sometimes handled separately from the rest of your medical plan. A five-minute call before we begin saves surprises later. Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  • Do I have outpatient mental health or behavioral health benefits?

  • Is telehealth therapy covered, and is it covered the same as in-person?

  • Do I have a deductible to meet first, and how much of it remains this year?

  • What is my copay or coinsurance per session once any deductible is met?

  • Do I need a referral or pre-authorization to start therapy?

  • Is Andrea Cabello, LMFT (NPI on request) an in-network provider on my specific plan?

Coverage varies from plan to plan, so the answers above are the most reliable way to know your costs. I’m glad to help you make sense of what you hear.

Using out-of-network benefits

If your plan isn’t listed above, many PPO plans still reimburse a portion of each session through out-of-network benefits. I can provide a monthly superbill, an itemized receipt you submit to your insurer for partial reimbursement. We can also talk openly about fees and options during your consultation so cost never quietly stands in the way of care.
